The Tarot of Marseille is an ancient deck that was most likely intended for the French game of Tarot. Occultists later adapted the Tarot for spiritual purposes including doing readings. This deck pre-dates the Golden Dawn deck, and is in a manner of speaking, the grandfather of both the RWS and Thoth decks.
